{"id":49,"date":"2012-11-05T19:59:52","date_gmt":"2012-11-05T19:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.moron-o-tron.com\/?p=49"},"modified":"2013-04-06T01:45:13","modified_gmt":"2013-04-06T01:45:13","slug":"context-switch-minor-progress-on-tile-slider","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.moron-o-tron.com\/?p=49","title":{"rendered":"Context Switch:  Minor Progress on Tile Slider"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I decided to switch gears again &#8212; definitely the mark of a successful developer, no? \u00a0Here&#8217;s the Tile Slider game prototype in action:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TileSlider 2012-11-05\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L8Z7wNdvbL4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It&#8217;s got a couple of gameplay element indicators present. \u00a0First is the color change for crossing a tile, an &#8220;enemy&#8221; moving about the\u00a0playfield, and the ability to speed up the player object.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Since I&#8217;ve made some progress, it&#8217;s only fair that I \u00a0do something drastic like moving off of the XNA library for this game. \u00a0I considered going to <a title=\"Unity 3D\" href=\"http:\/\/unity3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Unity<\/a> or even <a title=\"Moai SDK\" href=\"http:\/\/getmoai.com\" target=\"_blank\">Moai<\/a>\u00a0but decided to man up and start putting my own 2D engine together. \u00a0I&#8217;m doing this for a couple of reasons:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Get an entity\/component system up and running. \u00a0This will be used for everything from the player object to the UI, so I need to get it going now.<\/li>\n<li>XNA isn&#8217;t supported in the latest MSFT toolchains.<\/li>\n<li>Reasons.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be porting to C++\/<a title=\"DirectXTK at codeplex.com\" href=\"http:\/\/directxtk.codeplex.com\" target=\"_blank\">DirectXTK<\/a> as an interim step and then modifying\/replacing DXTK with something that can run on non MSFT platforms in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I decided to switch gears again &#8212; definitely the mark of a successful developer, no? \u00a0Here&#8217;s the Tile Slider game prototype in action: It&#8217;s got a couple of gameplay element indicators present. \u00a0First is the color change for crossing a tile, an &#8220;enemy&#8221; moving about the\u00a0playfield, and the ability to speed up the player object.
